NOTES FROM FILMMAKER ROBERTO MIGHTY
My friend Craig Evans called to ask if I would be interested in being Director/Camera on an unusual film project; an original ballet staged in an art gallery. The choreography would be inspired by the large format narrative photographs of Martin Coopera New York fine artist, designer and aesthete.
I checked out Martin Cooper’s website (www.martincooperphoto.com). I was immediately impressed. His photo series, "The Altis-Portraits of the Immortals" is breathtaking. Plus, the opening reception would be a benefit for Breast Cancer.
Craig’s friend Rebecca Rice (www.rebeccaricedance.com) is a Choreographer and dance company founder who teaches at the Boston Ballet School.
I was intrigued. I had completed a three-year commission from The Boston Foundation to film cutting-edge arts groups. That was, without doubt, one of my favorite projects. Plus, I had the honor of working throughout the summer with the Chilean Sculptor/Performance Artist Lucrecia Novoa on a music video project. Filming artists has become a specialty of mine, and I’ve always loved working with dancers, such as Dance Umbrella, Ballet Theater of Boston, Adrienne Hawkins’ Impulse Dance Company, Margie Topf’s MJT, Aero Dance Company and many others. The dancing would take place at Kenn Gray’s gorgeous Media Gallery, near the Boston’s City Hospital district.
