FILMS IN DEVELOPMENT - Kolor Girlz™

Their material is frank, edgy, and pushes the boundaries of sex, race and ethnicity. KolorGirlz is a theatrical documentary film by Roberto Mighty. It is about up-and-coming woman comedians of color. The subjects include an Iranian-American; a Korean-American; a Transsexual; a Lesbian; and an African-American.

"All of my KolorGirlz subjects have dealt with traumatic transformation. One was sexually abused by a trusted family friend as a girl. One rejected her repressive religious upbringing. One was harassed in the U.S. military. One receives hate mail from around the world about her performances. One became a woman after growing up in the body of a man. They are hilarious onstage, but there is depth behind their humor.

Using the ancient Roman poet Ovid’s “Metamorphosis” as an inspiration, KolorGirlz explores the comedian’s complicated backstories, their inner struggles, their personal metamorphoses, their transformative effects on their audiences, and their attempts to make it in the white-male dominated world of standup comedy.

My mission: These commentators bring fresh perspectives to the American conversation. I hope viewers will be enlightened by them, as I have been. I want people to get angry, weepy and turned on while watching KolorGirlz -- in between bouts of hysterical laughter. - Roberto Mighty
