Producing "La Casa En Mango Street"

Producing Audiobooks in English and Spanish

Random House taps Roberto to produce 3 books by Author Sandra Cisneros (above)

“It was 43 degrees and raining when I left my studio in Boston,” says Producer/Director Roberto Mighty. “When I got off the plane in San Antonio, Texas, it was 90 degrees, the sun was shining, and everybody was speaking “Tejano.” The Client: Random House Audio Executive Producer Jacob Bronstein. The assignment: Produce/Direct/Edit three unabridged audio books -- one in Spanish, two in English. The Author: legendary Mexican-American writer Sandra Cisneros (The House on Mango Street), whose books have sold millions of copies.

"Genius Grant"

Sandra is also the recipient of a MacArthur Foundation “Genius Grant.” She is famed for her lyrical takes on coming of age (The House on Mango Street,) Latina women and feminism (Woman Hollering Creek,) the poetry of passion (Loose Woman,) and her new epic novel, Caramelo. In addition to Ms. Cisneros, who read in English and “Spanglish,” Roberto worked with Liliana Valenzuela, a Mexican-born American acting Talent, who read the new Spanish version (La Casa En Mango Street) of one of Sandra’s classic books.

“I am committed to authenticity when it comes to Spanish-American accents,” says Roberto, whose Father is Panamian. “A Puerto Rican from New York City sounds different from a Mexican-American from Texas...and they both sound quite unlike a Cuban-American from Miami. Of course, it is critical that the Talent be a drop-dead great reader, as well. Luckily, Sandra and Liliana rocked the house for us!”
