| Roberto was raised in a Latin-American/African-American household. His mother, Julia Mighty, is herself a writer and always encouraged Roberto to express himself artistically. His father, Otilio Mighty, is a retired Air Force Master Sergeant and Civil Rights activist who always encouraged Roberto to embrace intellectuality. His two brothers, Pancho and Pedro, nurtured his love of music of all kinds. While Roberto was a boy, the family was in the military, so he grew up in Alaska and New York. He began writing poetry and prose while in grade school and started playing guitar at age 13. An early interest in theater led him to become a teen actor in the WNYE All-City Radio Workshop in Brooklyn, NY. He played lead guitar and led bands throughout high school and college, during which time he began songwriting in earnest and started honing his skills on several other instruments. Roberto built his first recording studio at age 17, and subsequently built more studios and a film/tv soundstage before selling it all to concentrate on writing, composing and directing. He began taking photographs in 2001. As a Producer/Director, he enjoys working with artists as diverse as Pulitzer-prize winning novelist John Updike and MacArthur Foundation Award recipient Sandra Cisneros; musicians J. Geils and Walter Beasley; and standup comedians Karith Foster and Esther Ku. Roberto is currently editing his debut feature film, KolorGirlz, about edgy women comedians of color across the USA. As a singer-guitarist-songwriter, Roberto's first album, KiTCHEN MuSIC, was released in 2008 to rave reviews on iTunes and Amazon. He is now recording a duet album with singer Kathryn Howell at WGBH recording studios in Boston. In the spoken word realm, Roberto will release two albums in Summer, 2010: Love Tapas, and Happy New Year, My Man. Roberto's multimedia photography documentary series, Scars, will be released in late 2010. |
