KoloGirlz: Filmmaker Roberto Mighty
WHY I HAD TO MAKE THIS FILM
"I grew up with a feminist Mother and a Latin-American Father. Needless to say, the psycho-social dynamic in our household was off the scale. It seems like I've always been fascinated by power dynamics between the sexes. Two years ago, I saw a special evening of woman comedians of color at the Jimmy Tingle Theater in Somerville, Massachusetts. Some of them were infuriating. Some of them were mesmerizing. All of them were hilarious. These commentators bring fresh perspectives to the American conversation. I knew immediately that I had to make a film about bold women like this across America -- and their scary truth-telling. I hope viewers will be enlightened and disturbed by them, as I was that first night. I want people to get angry, weepy and turned on while watching KolorGirlz --in between bouts of hysterical laughter." - Roberto Mighty
